Travelling in Polesie

Crossing the border – useful information:

Unlike Poland, Belarus and Ukraine are not member states of the European Union; therefore travelling into these countries is restricted by visa regulations.

Poland – Belarus:

An entry visa is required to cross the Polish-Belarusian border, with the exception of holders of residence permit in Belarus (an equivalent of the Polish residence permit).

Types of visas:

  • Transit visa (Type B) – for travelling via Belarus, valid up to 1 year, leaving Belarus must take place within maximum 2 days from entering the country
  • Short-term visa (Type C) – the most common type of visa for travellers visiting Belarus (business trips, private visits, tourism), valid up to 90 days from the first entry
  • Long-term visa (Type D) – for planned visits to Belarus longer that 90 days (commercial contracts, journalists’ work, participation in sports or cultural events, etc.), valid for 1 year.

Types of visas depending on the number of entries to Belarus (within the time of visa validity and the overall period of stay is up to 90 days):

  • single entry
  • double entry
  • multiple entry

A visa can be obtained in the Consulates of Belarus in Warsaw, Gdansk, Białystok and Biała Podlaska.

Note: A visa cannot be obtained on the state border.

Money restrictions:

All travellers entering Belarus must have an equivalent of 500 Euro per every month of stay or 20 euro per day (if a stay is shorter than a month).

Poland – Ukraine:

Citizens of Poland can travel to Ukraine on a valid passport, a visa is not required.

Money restrictions:

Travellers must have financial means of minimum 400 Euro to cover the cost of a 5-day stay (even if the intended visit is shorter).

Ukraine – Belarus:

Citizens of Ukraine can enter Belarus on a valid passport, a visa is not required.

Ukraine – Poland:

Citizens of Ukraine must have a valid visa and a passport (or other travel document).

Types of visas:

  • uniform short-term Schengen visa ( Type C) – for travellers intending to stay in Poland or other Schengen member state, valid 90 days within a 180-day period from the date of entry
  • Polish long-term national visa (Type D) – for travellers intending to stay on the territory of Poland for more than 90 days or visit Poland multiple times within 180-day period, valid up to a year.

A visa can be obtained from the Consulates of Poland in Ukraine. Application should be submitted in one of the Visa Application Centres in Ukraine.

Money restrictions:

For every day of stay travellers must have an equivalent of: 100 PLN or 300 PLN if the stay is up to 3 days (persons over the age of 16), and 50 PLN or 150 PLN if the stay is up to 3 days (children below the age of 16).

Belarus – Poland:

Citizens of Belarus must have a visa to enter Poland. Applications should be submitted on the territory of Belarus. Visas are issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Minsk, and the Consulates General in Brest and Grodno.

Types of visas – the same as required when travelling from Ukraine to Poland.

Belarus – Ukraine:

Citizens of Belarus are not required to have a visa. They can travel to Ukraine on a valid passport and stay there for an indefinite period of time.
